CareCore National gathered a dozen of the nation’s leading healthcare analysts, policy makers and administrators for its third annual 2012 Healthcare Summit on Hilton Head Island.  The event is one of the largest of its kind on the southeast coast.

The  summit kicked off its three-day agenda on Thursday, April 12 with comments by keynote speaker Mark McClellan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform and former administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.  McClellan discussed the evolution of “value over quantity” initiatives at CMS.  He also shared with his audience suggestions for incentivizing much-needed reform in federal health programs.

“Healthcare reform is an extremely complex undertaking that will require the efforts of leaders specializing in multiple disciplines,” said CareCore National CEO Doug Tardio. “We believe Dr. McClellan and the other speakers at our annual summit reflect the diverse skill sets that will collectively lead to the right solutions.”

Joining McClellan on the roster of VIP speakers was Rosemarie Day, current president of Day Health Strategies, a consulting firm committed to the implementation of healthcare reform.  Day formerly served as the first deputy director and chief operations officer for the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector in Massachusetts and was instrumental in the implementation of the state’s landmark reform legislation.

Renowned healthcare thought leader Dr. Vernon Smith was also a featured Summit speaker.  Smith is managing principal with Health Management Associates and renowned advisor to national media regarding the topics of Medicaid, Medicare, Children’s Health Insurance Program and trends in the healthcare market place.

She frequently spotlights healthcare reform issues in the award-winning news productions, All Things Considered and Morning Report.

The 2012 Healthcare Summit ran through Saturday, April 14th at Hilton Head’s Marriott Oceanfront Resort.  Discussion topics included the role of technology in delivering evidence-based medicine, ACA implementation, analysis of the Supreme Court’s Healthcare Reform cases and the future landscape for health insurance exchanges.
